Tailor-made rugby tours in Japan

Rugby was introduced to Japan in 1899 with their first international match taking place against a Canadian team in 1932. Japan is traditionally the strongest rugby union power in Asia but has enjoyed and endured mixed results against non-Asian teams over the years. Rugby is played quite extensively in schools in Japan from the age of 12 – with strong centres in Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo. Many of the schools now have long rugby playing traditions and welcome all touring sides to experience playing rugby in a background of traditional Japanese culture. Unlike traditional rugby playing nations, in Japan rugby is a 12 month commitment. Rugby touring teams to Japan however are only welcome in April due to the way the rest of their match playing season is organised.

Day 1 – DEPARTURE

Assemble at London Heathrow Airport for your flight to Osaka, Japan. Overnight: In Flight

Day 2 - FLIGHT/OSAKA

Arrival into Osaka where you will be met & transferred to your hotel for three nights’ accommodation on a B&B basis.

Enjoy a brief city tour on arrival.

Remainder of the day at leisure to familiarise yourself with the hotel and surroundings.

Day 3 – OSAKA

Match Day 1

Morning at leisure. Perhaps enjoy a river cruise on an Aqua Liner, visit the Floating Garden Observatory at the Umeda Sky Building, the Kaiyukan Aquarium or Shitennoji Temple, one of the oldest Buddhist Temples.

Afternoon transfer to your fixture and after match function

Day 4 – OSAKA

Full day at leisure

Perhaps visit Himeji Castle, a UNESCO world heritage site.

Day 5 - OSAKA/KYOTO

Depart Osaka this morning and travel by bullet train to Kyoto.

On arrival in Kyoto, transfer from the train station to a local High School where you will meet your host families for two nights billets/homestay accommodation.

Day 6 – KYOTO

Match Day 2

City tour of Kyoto taking in sights such as the Togetsu-kyo Bridge and Tenryu-ji Temple with the Zen garden.

Afternoon transfer to your fixture and after match function.

Day 7 – KYOTO

Bid hosts farewell and check into a hotel for one night.

Option to enjoy a full day excursion to Hiroshima. Visit the Peace Memorial Park and Memorial Museum.

Day 8 - KYOTO/TOKYO

Depart Host families and travel by bullet train from Kyoto to Tokyo.

On arrival in Tokyo you will be met and transferred to your hotel where accommodation is reserved for three nights on a bed and breakfast basis.

Rest of day at leisure.

Day 9 – TOKYO

Match Day 3

Early start this morning (6am) for a visit to the Tsukijj fish Market – an amazing spectacle and chance to try fresh Sushi for breakfast.

Afternoon transfer to your fixture and after match function

Day 10 – TOKYO

Today enjoy a full day at Tokyo Disneyland

End of Tour Dinner in local restaurant or at hotel

Day 11 - TOKYO/ARRIVAL HOME

This morning check out of your hotel and transfer to the airport for your return flight to London.

On arrival into London Airport, pass through immigration, collect luggage, clear customs and make your own way home.

    Passports: Must be valid for duration of stay although we recommend 6 months validity.

    Currency: Japanese Yen is local currency. 

    Main Language: Japanese but English taught in all schools

    Water: Tap water is safe to drink.

    Electricity: 100 AC, 60 Hz in the west, 100 AC, 50 Hz in the east and Tokyo.

    International Dialing: + 81

    Driving: Left hand side of road. International Driving Permit required (contact AA or RAC).

    Clothing: Shoes should be removed before entering any private homes, Temples or Japanese style restaurants.

    Visas: Not required by British Passport Holders. All other nationalities to contact the Japanese Embassy directly.

    Vaccinations: Please consult your G.P. You should always ensure that your Tetanus is up to date.

    Tipping: Tipping is not the general custom in Japan. Service charges may be added to bills though.
